Fire Yourself TODAY, Please!

Posted by & filed under Personal Growth.

the-axe-59962-mIt is time to wake up to who you are and what you’re not doing.

You complain constantly to yourself.

You don’t like where you are in life.

You don’t like the amount of money you’re making.

You don’t like the lack of vacations and travel that you anticipated experiencing.

You may not even like your chosen spouse.

You can’t just show up and expect rewards. You have to do something—a massive amount of “some” things. You have to take risk. You have to go into the unknown. You have to experience something you’ve never done before.

Act like your job is on the line. It is! Wake up to this fact—that you have to produce more than you charge (or what the company you work for charges).

You have to think ahead. You have to see beyond your own hood ornament as you continue driving along the road of life. You have to see beyond the obvious. It is time to stop going through the motions and acting like you have no responsibility.

Wake up to the possibilities of what you can do with the legacy you will leave. And one IS being left. Whether you intend to or not.

This is your life! This is not a dress rehearsal or a practice run. This is the real thing. Time is limited. You are on a deadline. It ends at midnight tonight. If this was your last day, did you accomplish what you set out to do in life and make it extremely meaningful today?

Zig Ziglar said, “Don’t become a wandering generality. Be a meaningful specific.”

Get specific with what you are doing today. Get specific with your goals—list a number with a deadline.

It is time to start acting like your butt is on the line. Fire yourself today if you don’t show up, and measure up. Then hire the new you tomorrow.

It amazes me how many people I talk to today about where they are in life and what they want to do. A month later they’re in the exact same position. This is crazy thinking. A lack of massive action.

It’s so simple to correct. It’s so simple to at least act like you’re alive. I need some evidence. Is there enough proof in a court of law that you even exist? If not, it is time to mark your existence, mark your territory.

You can do this! Stop your whining. Act like somebody. Sit up straight.

You may need to discipline yourself like you would a toddler. Most of us would not tolerate this kind of behavior from a toddler. And yet we live with ourselves acting this way on a daily basis.

You become numb to who you are and what you’re supposed to be doing. Grow up! You need to be as demanding on yourself as you would this toddler.

It is time to step up to a higher standard. It is time to stand tall and breathe deep, and hold your head high. Put a smile on your face a twinkle in your eyes.

Stop acting like you’re protected from your own incompetence. That is a lie. You are an individual and this is your life. Period.

(By the way, that is a real “period.” That period has accountability. It means what it says in the previous sentence. No if’s, and’s, or but’s. Period. It is not a mumbo-jumbo word that is meaningless and without responsibility. It is definitive. That’s what I’m talking about.)

It is responsibility. It IS your responsibility.

I am intense about this. And you should be too. I want you to hear “Well done!” at the end of your life when you’re facing your Creator. I don’t want you to look back and be disappointed by what you did or did not do. What you do today can and will matter for all eternity. PERIOD!!

How do you do this?

This is where I am to close out with some bullet points and how to’s. Except I’m not.

Most likely it is not just a list of 3-5 things. It is not just one thing. It will be a series of several things over a period of time.

I know you don’t know what your first step is. BUT if YOU did know, what would you say and do?

I know you know. You know you know. Now tell me. Leave me a comment and tell me and yourself what you are going to do.

Great post, @therobertd:disqus! I guess great minds think alike. I posted on my blog this morning a post titled “2014: Ready or Not…Here We Come!” The fact is that we always look for the next day, the next week, the next month, the next year, the next spouse, the next job…when the solution to our problem is the person we see looking back at us when we look into the mirror. Thanks for writing this post, Robert!

I need to sit down and invest the time in defining efficient workflows for non-writing tasks so that I have more block time to write. I’m a full-time financial analyst and a part-time church social media director. Add a family and a new house into the mix and my margin for writing is constrained at best.

Sounds like a great plan, KC!

The first thing I need to do is pick myself up off the floor after this gut punch of an article. You must have been watching over my shoulder this week….

i need to slow down, focus my energies on what really matters instead of overcommitting to just about anything, become a little bit more selfish, meditate, breath, keep a daily gratitude journal and stop being scared…follow my heart because in my heart i always know what i have to do…its my mind that tricks me…
